Portraits in clay

HYPERION“, 2001
2 m. tall

… the spirit of a great Romanian poet, Mihai Eminescu, inspired by his poem,“The Evening Star”: a star turning into human, in the ultimate sacrifice for love.

I turned a simple task of a poet’s portrait into something more special. Not the human that died like a human had to be remembered, but the human that lived through his creation, like a star, transcending life and death, with his hands becoming wings. For me, Eminescu is Hyperion.
